By the time Bahadur Shah Zafar came to power, the British had taken away the right of the Mughals to issue coins under their name. A large number of coins were being issued by the Princely States and some of them still used the name of the Mughal Emperor on their coins.
The mint of the walled city of Delhi (Shahjahanabad) produced some coins mainly for presentation purposes. These were called Nazrana Rupees. The following was the only coin issued from there under the name of Bahadur Shah Zafar. These coins were issued in the Hijra years 1254-1258.
The coins were silver with a weight of 11.444 grams.
